Two 90's Hollywood Comet blockbuster movies released into movie theaters

In the past 14 years, Hollywood overlooked the comet and asteroid end of the world genre that is highly popular among moviegoers. There is something about comet movies that captures the allure of the moviegoing public. We figure that moviegoers enjoy watching end of the world movies involving comets and asteroids projecting toward Earth to end life.

Two 90's Hollywood comet blockbuster released into movie theaters in 1998. Deep Impact and Armageddon hit the box office scene, making a huge impact in the box office. Deep Impact generated nearly $142 million in domestic ticket sales while Armageddon delivered the highest grossing box office performance in 1998.

Moviegoers have waited patiently to watch another good comet movie. Good comet movies can make a bundle, especially with end of the world Mayan Calendar and galactic alignment discussions crowding 2012. We have yet to experience a major natural disaster. Zombie movies entertain our fears of a lethal virus transforming the living into the walking dead.

Moviegoers enjoy watching comet movies since filmmakers humanize characters. We can identify with the movie characters because our actions may resemble theirs. This is why moviegoers find end of the world movies with comets and asteroids entertaining and sometimes emotionally charged.

The last two Hollywood blockbusters dealing with a comet and asteroid were released in movie theaters in 1998. Deep Impact is about a comet heading toward Earth. A space team is assembled to save the world, though the outcome is unexpected. We see an ensemble cast of major actors playing roles that depict how people will react when the world is on the brink of annihilation.

In the Armageddon movie, a team of oil drillers are recruited to save the world. The world endures two asteroid collisions, with one hitting Southeast Asia to cause a major tsunami and another slamming in the dead center of Paris to create a nuclear-type explosion. Both asteroid impacts deliver adverse results.

How will you respond to the end of the world? Will you forgive a friend? Talk with lost family members? Find religion? Get saved? Gain the courage to ask out your dream person? Comet and asteroid movies are entertaining and emotional concepts because people must make a decision to change.

Deep Impact movie review

Mimi Leder's Deep Impact movie hit movie theaters in 1998. The comet movie opened up with $41 million in box office ticket sales to compliment the high demand for good end of the world movies associated with comets and asteroids. Deep Impact reveals a doomsday scenario involving a large comet on pace to collide with Earth. The end of the world movie chronicles the human reaction to a possible end of the world extinction level event. What would you do if told the world would end?

Deep Impact opens with a high school Astronomy club viewing the stars. Leo Biederman (played by Elijah Wood) discovers a displaced stars in the night sky. He alerts his teacher Mike Perry (Mike O'Malley) of the discovery. Mike instructs Leo to snapshot the unknown object so that Dr. Wolf (Charles Martin Smith) can review the images. We sense this discovery is something related to a comet.

Dr. Wolf inserts the disk the Astronomy club sends to him. While eating a slice of pizza, he  inputs a few projections to examine the unknown star. Out of nowhere, Dr. Wolf make a stark discovery that this unknown stars is a comet with a trajectory to collide with Earth. He uploads the content, and then races to alert the world. However, he dies in a car accident.

A news anchor Jenni Learner (Tea Leoni) investigates the Secretary of Treasury Alan Rittenhouse's (James Cromwell) premature resignation. There is confusion between Jenni and former Secretary Rittenhouse. It is obvious Rittenhouse assumes Jenni is aware of E.L.E. (Extinction Level Event). He refers to the news as the bigger story in history.

While Jenni dictates notes on the Rittenhouse interview, secret service personnel slam into her vehicle. She is then escorted to a private location to meet with the President Beck (Morgan Freeman). Whereas Jenni is confused to the truth about E.L.E., President Beck gives Jenni a presidential favor to ask the first question at a Whitehouse news conference. For the most part, we discover that Deep Impact is a serious movie detailing the end of the world comet collision through the eye of the United States.

We begin to realize that Deep Impact is a brilliant collage of stunning visuals and excellent storytelling. The ultra Deep Impact movie delivers an ensemble cast of top Hollywood performers to convey the end of the world. The comet movie is super energizing, portraying how humans behave prior to the doomsday comet impact. Will you reunite with a loved one? Reconnect with old friends? Find religion? Get saved? How will you respond to the end of the world?

A space shuttle Messiah is sent into space in an attempt to destroy the large comet. A small percentage of people are selected to reside in a tavern designed to ensure that the future of humanity lives on. People loot stores, sell equipment at high prices to profit, and millions of Americans flee to escape the expected tsunami projected to smother the East Coast, Western Africa, and the U.K.

The all-star Deep Impact cast of Robert Duvall, Ron Eldard, Jon Favreau, Mary McCormack, Leelee Sobieski, Kurtwood Smith, Morgan Freeman, Elijah Wood, and Tea Leoni make this movie an entertaining end of the world portrayal. We watch how humanizing the characters will develop a connection with the moviegoer to show compassion. As soon as you watch the Deep Impact movie, you will find that reliving the end of the world comet doomsday event over and over again becomes rather entertaining. Enjoy the Deep Impact comet movie on a Friday movie night.

Warner Brothers inks Ben Affleck to direct Stephen Kings' The Stand

According to MTV Movies Blog, Warner Brothers inked Ben Affleck to write and direct Stephen Kings' The Stand. The original The Stand (1994) television adaptation confronted a deadly virus that wiped out the world. Virus movies such as The Stand frighten people because they attack the religious belief system which questions their faith in God. We realize that deadly disease outbreaks are possible in our world. Ben Affleck previously won an Academy Award for Good Will Hunting, which he shared with his best friend Matt Damon. Warner Brothers selected a great director and writer to remake The Stand.

The Stand is about a virus that sweeps the world, killing off a large percentage of the world's population. The remaining humans must fight to survive the wrath of the devil through maintaining their biblical beliefs. The Stand is expected to be released in theaters in 2013. Ben Affleck is currently writing the screenplay. He will then prepare to direct The Stand with a mystery crew that hasn't been named yet.

The end of the world film will be a huge project for Ben Affleck. His Gone Baby Gone and The Town movies are quality dramas with artistic appeal. We can expect Ben Affleck to deliver The Stand to moviegoers with Stephen Kings' book intact. Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are nonetheless tough novel to screen adaptations that proved to be wildly successful. The same holds true for Stephenie Meyers' Twilight novels that captured the essence of the two main characters.

The Stand is an end of the world movie due out in 2013, a year after the Mayan Calendar predicts the end of the world. Warner Brothers selected Ben Affleck to write and direct the end of the world movie, a genre which Ben Affleck starred in with the massive Armageddon asteroid movie in 1998. Get ready to watch a scary depiction of the end of the world in Ben Affleck's The Stand.

The most terrifying end of the world movies

End of the world movies make Hollywood studios big bucks. You will never find a dull moment in an end of the world movie. The most terrifying end of the world movies are those which are realistically possible. Such end of the world movies capture more than your imagination. What are the most terrifying end of the world movies?

End of the world movies confront our inner fears. Religion plays an important role in end of the world movies. End of the world movies begin with relational problems. The main characters struggle with marital, bonding, resentment, and religion problems. End of the world movies humanize the characters to capture the allure of reality as we know it.

In Knowing, Nicholas Cage's (John) character loses his faith in God. He blames God for allowing his wife to burn in a building fire. The movie deals with the events leading up to the end of the world. John eventually comes to terms with his belief system soon after watching an Alien wheel, reminiscent of Ezekial's Wheel.

The Bible's depiction of Ezekial's encounter is interpreted as Angels from Heaven. However, Ezekial's Wheel may possibly convey a UFO encounter. John reaffirms his faith because the alien beings prove there is life after death.

Knowing portrays an accurate depiction of the end of the world. Moviegoers enjoy watching end of the world movies to build a connection with the characters. They find that characters have real-life problems like theirs. In the end, humans choose to bond with their loves ones.

End of the world movies dealing with virus themes demonstrate the fear of an epidemic. The world realizes that viruses have the power to travel the world in a matter of weeks. Outbreak, 12 Monkeys, Contagion, 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, The Stand, and Resident Evil movies convey the horror of virus outbreaks that can sweep the world.

There is little protection against deadly viruses. Virus movies frighten moviegoers to the point in which they realize the effects of an all-out epidemic. Characters in virus movies reflect back to the past, knowing that dark times are waiting ahead of them. Deadly viruses can wipe out mankind. We hope that a new virus never surfaces. However, we must be prepared to treat the next outbreak.

End of the world movie with nuclear holocaust themes are terrifying. The fear of The Day After movie traumatized me for years. An image of a nuclear explosion forces me to turn away. The sight of a nuclear explosion depicted in nuclear movies makes my throat tighten, my stomach sick, and creates a sense of fear. Since I understand the history of atomic and nuclear weapons based on past research, the fear of the end of the world due to a nuclear war has lessened over the years.

I attempted to read a 1000 Suns, which is a book about the most powerful nuclear launches in the history of the world. One Pacific Ocean launch caused Japanese fishermen to become sick with radiation poisoning. The Japanese fishermen were fishing nearly 375 miles away from the under water nuclear blast. The book is an intense collaboration of the massive nuclear explosions with the power to destroy an entire state or a small nation.

Terminator movies confronted the end of the world. The SkyNet computer launched nuclear weapons to Russia. Therefore, the machines knew that attacking Russia meant an instant counterattack.  Counterattacks and the first strike will destroy targets on both sides, including surrounding nations. Underground fallout bunkers can only keep their occupants safe for a limited time. The occupants must go back to the surface again to rebuild life. A nuclear winter contaminates the land with radiation.

Deep Impact and Armageddon are comet and asteroid movies. People fear that NASA will release a report of a possible comet and or asteroid impact. The Yucatan Peninsula already endured a comet strike millions of years ago. A comet the size of 160km is enough to destroy the entire world. A 5-mile wide comet can create a toxic dust cloud that will suffocate the planet.

A comet impact on land will create an fiery explosion, projecting molten rock across the world. Ground zero can cover several states. The toxic fumes will transform the air into a poisonous hotbed. It really depends on the size of the comet, whether the impact is on land or in the water. A water impact will create tsunamis traveling at speeds up to 1000 mph.

Imagine a 1,000 feet wave racing toward you. What can you do? Inland cities are not safe from a deadly tsunami. The sewage system will spread disease, destroy crops, and contaminate drinking water. End of the world movies dealing with comets and asteroids show real depictions of the end of the world. Moviegoers enjoy asteroid and comet movies for entertainment purposes, but the fear of an end relating to such events is terrifying.

End of the world movies are terrifying for a number of reasons. Writers and directors humanize characters so we can too, experience the fear of meeting our end or winning the battle to save mankind. Religions convey to followers that it is time to meet their maker, the God that makes living life possible. End of the world movies with nuclear holocaust themes affect the mind. We fear that nuclear nations will make the sky rain with nuclear ICBMs. Can citizens trust interceptors to take out nuclear missiles? Star Wars was once set into motion to neutralize a nuclear attack. Reduced military funding ended the Star Wars program.

In essence, end of the world movies are terrifying, though they are rather interesting for their education purpose - to convey the fact that life as we know it can end in many ways. End of the world movies are possible events forthcoming. We can't predict when a comet, asteroid, disease, natural disaster, solar flares, and a nuclear war will strike us. The world is a fragile planet with many dangerous possibilities that can cause or accelerate the end of the world. Until then, we can enjoy watching the most terrifying end of the world movies.

Our Fascination with End of the World Movies

End of the world movies always perform well in the movie Box Office. Moviegoers are drawn to end of the world scenarios in movies. Is the world ending that exciting of a theme to capture the allure in end of the world movies?  Nonetheless, end of the world entertain moviegoers for a number of reasons.

Our fascination with end of the world movies demonstrate that we want to seek forgiveness and rekindle with family members and friends. The world is a selfish place. Most end of the world movies show people stepping on another person to escape danger. End of the world movies touch on zombies, disease, comets, asteroids, nuclear destruction, Aliens, the sun, Mayan Calendar, and natural disasters.

This past May 21, 2011, a Christian reverend Howard Camping predicted the end of the world. His prediction was obviously false because the world is moving on just fine after the apocalyptic prophecy failed to materialize. Are people that unhappy to be depressed after the end of the world ceased to produce massive earthquakes across the globe? Religious denominations speak of the end of the world in their sermons. We live in a life constantly thinking about the end of times.

End of the world movies and prophecies are popular among religious followers. There is a sense of encouragement that refusing to submit to Christ will leave people to deal with judgment day on Earth. Religious followers suggest that the end of the world is near. They want to show that their submission to God and Jesus will reserve their spot in Heaven.

The last end of the world movie that hit theaters is Contagion. Contagion is a virus movie about the effects of a deadly virus spreading across the globe in a matter of days. As depicted in 12 Monkeys, deadly viruses travel fast through airports since people usually disperse to various areas. There may be a deadly virus brewing in a laboratory or in a juggle in the Amazon Forest. We really can't predict whether a new deadly virus will surface to sweep the globe in deadly fashion.

Virus movies are even more daunting when they involve zombies. Movies such as 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Zombieland, Dawn of the Dead, I Am Legend, and Resident Evil depict a virus that transforms people into flesh eating zombies. The new popular AMC television show The Walking enters the world of zombies infected with a deadly virus that takes over the brain. Then, these Infected humans crave human flesh. There is a silent ambient tone that shows how lonely the world becomes in the face of a zombie apocalypse.

Quarantine shows what a manufactured rabies virus can do to humans. Is it possible to see a zombie world on Earth? I would like to avoid the topic since I had dreams about zombies terrorizing the world on several occasions. Even so, the rabies virus is a frightening virus that is lethal once symptoms begin to show. There is no known cure for rabies. Therefore, a vaccination is quickly given to animal bite victims. The precaution is to prevent rabies rather than try to treat an incurable virus after onset.

Deep Impact and Armageddon are two popular comet movies that face extinction level events (E.L.E.). Comet movies depict human bonding dealing with a near end of the world event. We tend to be drawn to these characters because they are like us. Every person has some sort of flaw. They also allow their hate to manifest.

Comet movies show people making amends to seek forgiveness. Religious locations such as mosques and churches attract millions of followers. Essentially, comet movies are more real rather than metaphysical. NASA monitors space for Near-Earth objects. We can never scan outer space enough to detect every comet or asteroid that is on course to hit Earth.

Natural disasters in 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow are plausible end of the world movies. The movies show that natural disasters can end the world. Therefore, the world must be prepared to respond after an end of the world event. Whereas 2012 channels the end of the world events reminiscent of predictions based on the historical Mayan Calender, there is truth to the natural disaster such as a major earthquake, the Yellowstone super volcano, and enormous tsunamis forming across the world.

The most terrifying end of the world movie is nuclear destruction. I once had a fear of nuclear weapons as a kid. After watching The Day After, the end of the world events depicted a world crippled after an all-out nuclear attack. The nuclear blast killed millions and possibly billions of people.

The effects of nuclear destruction turned the world into a nuclear winter. Thus, radiation poisoning then decays the human body, accelerating cells to rapidly grow into cancerous tumors. The Book of Eli, Terminator movies, The Day After, and Threads are end of the world movies about nuclear disaster.

Devil movies are popular end of the world movies. In devil movies, a woman must give birth to a devil baby, leading the world to the end of times. Devil movies depict judgment day events. Examples of devil movies with end of the world themes are Constantine, End of Days, and Omen. Devil movies attack the religious belief system to challenge nonbelievers, making them feel they will succumb to a fiery death without adopting faith in God and accepting Jesus into their hearts.

One rather interesting end of the world movie is Knowing. The end of the world movie chronicles past disaster events. The predictions are made prior to the tragic events via a number system. The movie is about religion, science, Aliens and the end of the world triggered by a massive solar flare.

The main character comes to term with his lost in faith to accept the world will end. He watches Alien-angel beings take his son away, believing that life goes on after death. Therefore, the end of the world movie captures the essence of biblical events of winged Aliens possibly confused as Angels in Ezekiel's Wheel. The movie challenges the notion that human life is based on both scientific and religious events.

There are many end of the world movies with different themes. Moviegoers enjoy watching end of the world movies to entertain the idea of society reacting to the moments prior to an end of the world event. Will people ask for forgiveness? Can they rekindle a lost flame? Do people apologize to another person they hurt?

End of the world movies are popular because they humanize characters to make them as real as us. We can relate to human suffering. We all have fear. Religious followers accept the end of the world as a spiritual event to end suffering. The pain and suffering exhibited on Earth points to a need to begin anew.

End of the world movies convey that when the end of the world arrives, there is no escaping the events. You must have faith that "This is not the end" as depicted in Knowing,  In essence, end of the world movies portray real human bonding leading up to the end of the world.

Popular End of the World Movies

End of the world movies are entertaining. Movies about the end of the world are becoming even more popular because of massive earthquakes, the 2012 Mayan Calendar, and natural disasters events are pointing to the end of times. Even so, there is widespread fear concerning the rapture. Religion helps many people cope with widespread fear that is associated with end of the world. What are the most popular end of the world movies?

Metaphysics plays an important role in determining whether psychic and prophets are capable of predicting the end of the world. For the most part, metaphysical concepts go beyond the physical realm. Nonetheless, the CDC released a zombie survival guide to prepare citizens for a worse case scenario. What is all the hoopla surrounding the end of times? Why are people so interested in end of the world movies?

End of the world movies usually revolve around dysfunctional or conflicting situations. For example, Tea Leoni's character in Deep Impact must accept the fact that her father remarried another younger women, while her mother lives alone. However, the extinction level event that is forthcoming brings her closer to her father. In the end, every character resolves their conflict to move past emotional turmoil that prevented them from previously bonding.

End of the world movies convey the realism of life. Writers develop characters into genuine humans that moviegoers can understand. When the world is on the cusp of ending, people will seek forgiveness to die peacefully. Thus, family members rekindle their broken relationships and repair past mistakes to restore their faith.

There will be a few good end of the world movies released in the 2012 Holywood Box Office. The Mayan Calendar concepts will emerge as a thriving theme to capture the allure of the end of times. As frightening as it may seem, end of the world movies are essentially pure entertainment to make people think long after their initial movie screening. In most end of the world movies, people must experience a series of tests to determine whether humanity is worth saving.
The top end of the world movies are:

1) Terminator movies
2) I Am Legend
3) Book of Eli
4) Knowing
5) 12 Monkeys
6) Dawn of the Dead (2004)
7) Deep Impact
8) Armageddon
9) 2012
10) The Day After Tomorrow
11) 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later
12) Resident Evil movies
13) Dream Catcher
14) Waterworld
15) Independence Day
16) Sunshine
17) End of Days
18) Happening
19) Signs
20) Constantine
21) The Day The Earth Stood Still
22) War of the Worlds

There are many end of the world movies with great themes. I will locate additional end of the world movies to list on this website. The Knowing movie conveys the best end of the world theme. A day prior to the end of the world, Alien-angel beings relocate the young children on another Earth-like planet to start a new beginning.

Several months ago, I had a scary dream that showed three suns in the night sky. One of the suns turned bright red, and then consumed the two smaller suns. The red sun is consistent with scientific theories that the Sun will one day become a red giant, devouring Mercury, Vennus, and then the Earth. I will write more about end of the world movies, predictions and dreams in an upcoming article. Thanks for reading.
