The most terrifying end of the world movies

End of the world movies make Hollywood studios big bucks. You will never find a dull moment in an end of the world movie. The most terrifying end of the world movies are those which are realistically possible. Such end of the world movies capture more than your imagination. What are the most terrifying end of the world movies?

End of the world movies confront our inner fears. Religion plays an important role in end of the world movies. End of the world movies begin with relational problems. The main characters struggle with marital, bonding, resentment, and religion problems. End of the world movies humanize the characters to capture the allure of reality as we know it.

In Knowing, Nicholas Cage's (John) character loses his faith in God. He blames God for allowing his wife to burn in a building fire. The movie deals with the events leading up to the end of the world. John eventually comes to terms with his belief system soon after watching an Alien wheel, reminiscent of Ezekial's Wheel.

The Bible's depiction of Ezekial's encounter is interpreted as Angels from Heaven. However, Ezekial's Wheel may possibly convey a UFO encounter. John reaffirms his faith because the alien beings prove there is life after death.

Knowing portrays an accurate depiction of the end of the world. Moviegoers enjoy watching end of the world movies to build a connection with the characters. They find that characters have real-life problems like theirs. In the end, humans choose to bond with their loves ones.

End of the world movies dealing with virus themes demonstrate the fear of an epidemic. The world realizes that viruses have the power to travel the world in a matter of weeks. Outbreak, 12 Monkeys, Contagion, 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, The Stand, and Resident Evil movies convey the horror of virus outbreaks that can sweep the world.

There is little protection against deadly viruses. Virus movies frighten moviegoers to the point in which they realize the effects of an all-out epidemic. Characters in virus movies reflect back to the past, knowing that dark times are waiting ahead of them. Deadly viruses can wipe out mankind. We hope that a new virus never surfaces. However, we must be prepared to treat the next outbreak.

End of the world movie with nuclear holocaust themes are terrifying. The fear of The Day After movie traumatized me for years. An image of a nuclear explosion forces me to turn away. The sight of a nuclear explosion depicted in nuclear movies makes my throat tighten, my stomach sick, and creates a sense of fear. Since I understand the history of atomic and nuclear weapons based on past research, the fear of the end of the world due to a nuclear war has lessened over the years.

I attempted to read a 1000 Suns, which is a book about the most powerful nuclear launches in the history of the world. One Pacific Ocean launch caused Japanese fishermen to become sick with radiation poisoning. The Japanese fishermen were fishing nearly 375 miles away from the under water nuclear blast. The book is an intense collaboration of the massive nuclear explosions with the power to destroy an entire state or a small nation.

Terminator movies confronted the end of the world. The SkyNet computer launched nuclear weapons to Russia. Therefore, the machines knew that attacking Russia meant an instant counterattack.  Counterattacks and the first strike will destroy targets on both sides, including surrounding nations. Underground fallout bunkers can only keep their occupants safe for a limited time. The occupants must go back to the surface again to rebuild life. A nuclear winter contaminates the land with radiation.

Deep Impact and Armageddon are comet and asteroid movies. People fear that NASA will release a report of a possible comet and or asteroid impact. The Yucatan Peninsula already endured a comet strike millions of years ago. A comet the size of 160km is enough to destroy the entire world. A 5-mile wide comet can create a toxic dust cloud that will suffocate the planet.

A comet impact on land will create an fiery explosion, projecting molten rock across the world. Ground zero can cover several states. The toxic fumes will transform the air into a poisonous hotbed. It really depends on the size of the comet, whether the impact is on land or in the water. A water impact will create tsunamis traveling at speeds up to 1000 mph.

Imagine a 1,000 feet wave racing toward you. What can you do? Inland cities are not safe from a deadly tsunami. The sewage system will spread disease, destroy crops, and contaminate drinking water. End of the world movies dealing with comets and asteroids show real depictions of the end of the world. Moviegoers enjoy asteroid and comet movies for entertainment purposes, but the fear of an end relating to such events is terrifying.

End of the world movies are terrifying for a number of reasons. Writers and directors humanize characters so we can too, experience the fear of meeting our end or winning the battle to save mankind. Religions convey to followers that it is time to meet their maker, the God that makes living life possible. End of the world movies with nuclear holocaust themes affect the mind. We fear that nuclear nations will make the sky rain with nuclear ICBMs. Can citizens trust interceptors to take out nuclear missiles? Star Wars was once set into motion to neutralize a nuclear attack. Reduced military funding ended the Star Wars program.

In essence, end of the world movies are terrifying, though they are rather interesting for their education purpose - to convey the fact that life as we know it can end in many ways. End of the world movies are possible events forthcoming. We can't predict when a comet, asteroid, disease, natural disaster, solar flares, and a nuclear war will strike us. The world is a fragile planet with many dangerous possibilities that can cause or accelerate the end of the world. Until then, we can enjoy watching the most terrifying end of the world movies.
